About the event

Located in Vancouver, VANCHA is proud to announce its upcoming Chinese Tea Brewing Championship in 2023. This highly anticipated event will showcase the art of tea brewing and feature talented participants from around the world. Sponsored by leading tea companies and organizations, the competition will offer a platform for contestants to display their expertise in brewing a variety of Chinese teas.

The Chinese Tea Brewing Championship will be judged by a panel of experts in the tea industry, who will evaluate each contestant's technique, aroma, flavor, and presentation. The event promises to be an exciting opportunity for tea enthusiasts to learn from the best in the business, as well as a chance for competitors to gain recognition for their skill and knowledge.

In addition to the competition, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy traditional Chinese tea ceremonies, taste a wide variety of teas, and explore the rich history and culture of Chinese tea. VANCHA looks forward to welcoming tea lovers from all over the world to this unforgettable event.

Process &
Registration Form

Process

The competition process  is divided into preliminary rounds, semi-finals, and finals. The specific arrangements are as follows:

Preliminary rounds: Auditions will begin in May, and all Chinese tea enthusiasts are eligible to participate.

Semi-finals: In early September, the top 20 contestants will be selected to enter the semi-finals.

Finals: At the end of September, 9 contestants will be selected, and the first, second, and third places will be determined. The first-place winner will receive a grand prize, and there will be other individual awards available as well.

Rules & Registration Form

The competition will be scored by a professional judging panel within a specified scope. The members of the judging panel include:

Preliminary and semi-final judges: Evon Wang, Founder of Wentea, Chinese Culture Promoter Lillian Li, Senior Tea Artist, Senior Tea Taster, and Chinese Tea Ceremony Instructor

Final judges (TBD): Li Shuyun, a renowned tea expert, and aesthetics teacher from Taiwan Ai Shang, Pu-erh tea expert from Yunnan, China Yves Tiberghien, professor at the UBC Asia Research Institute from Canada Nathan Wakeford, tea brewing expert from Australia One mystery guest

The competition will be held at the Wentea West Vancouver flagship store. During the preliminary round, contestants must use tea equipment provided by Wentea to brew tea and must complete the brewing process within 45 minutes (at least allowing all judges to taste three infusions). In the semi-final and final rounds, contestants may bring their own tea equipment, and an additional 5 points will be awarded for table decoration in the final round.

This Chinese tea brewing competition is sure to attract attention from both the East and West, becoming a cultural event in Vancouver. On the day of the finals and at the awards gala, various Chinese and Western media outlets will be in attendance to report on the event, as well as important figures from all walks of life.
